Why study Information and Communication Technology?

GCSE in ICT encourages the exploration and study of ICT in a variety of contexts: home, business, industry, recreation and education. In any given situation, students are given the opportunity to acquire competence, ability and critical skills through the implementation, use and evaluation of a range of ICT systems.

Paper 1:

  • Hardware – input, storage and output
  • Software
  • Communications, networks and the internet
  • Applications and effects of ICT

Paper 2:

  • DTP/Word Processing Software (DTP/WP)
  • Web authoring software (WA)
  • Spreadsheet software (SS)
  • Database software (DB)
  • Presentation software (PS)
  • Art/imaging and graphics software (AG)

How is it examined?

Paper 1 - Written paper (1hr 30mins; 50% of qualification)

Paper 2 - Practical paper (3hrs; 50% of qualification)
